Woodbridge High School Video Case Study

This video was co-produced and launched at BETT 2012 by Joskos partners Dell and Intel and encompasses the partnership approach Joskos and Woodbridge have taken in delivering a robust, cutting-edge and empowering ICT solution for Woodbridge’s staff and learners.


Woodbridge High School is a Specialist Language College in Woodford Green in the London Borough of Redbridge. In the summer of 2010 Joskos was commissioned to overhaul its entire network infrastructure and to deploy a site-wide Ruckus wireless network.

Before Joskos’ solution was deployed, Woodbridge’s cabled network and switching required a complete overhaul. Over the period of 6 weeks, Joskos completely rewired the entire school (using Cat6 and Fibre backbones) and upgraded a number of switches so that connected hardwired devices could operate at gigabit speeds with 10Gb between the enterprise server hardware.  As part of the project, a number of VLANs were also configured.

A key driver for Woodbridge commissioning this large-scale project was that it wanted to push the boundaries of what ICT could offer and to enrich the curriculum and encourage learners through independent learning opportunities. Prior to the infrastructure overhaul, Woodbridge’s network catered for 400 devices and it now boasts 1,000 user devices connecting daily.

Woodbridge’s Ruckus managed wireless network now caters for all of the school’s laptops and netbooks, but the school has also made the choice to allow controlled access through personal devices, something that that the school is seeing huge success with, especially within the 6th Form.

During the project, Joskos worked alongside and liaised closely with other contractors on site within extremely short timescales to ensure the project was completed on time and in budget. Post-installation, the school’s technical team received advanced technical training on the management of the system, with administration and form tutors given training on how to allow guest access for non-school devices and how to enable visitors to access the internet.

Woodbridge has since received an unprecedented interest from schools across the Local Authority and is now on a Redbridge technical steering group whose sole function is to educate and share best ICT practices with other schools.
